Meet the Directors!

Senior Camp-

Lance and KatE Dilks-Bird

Lance and Kate have been involved with Malaga Youth Camps since 2010 and 2014 respectively, serving in different capacities including the roles of counselor, worship leader, directors, Bible verse games teacher, and Bible study teachers.

We both love serving in camp ministry because we look forward to witnessing the fruit of how God uses these weeks to plant seeds in the lives of the next generation. Our favorite camp memory is meeting each other at camp! This is where we met and grew deeper in faith together. We have been married for 8 years and currently reside in Woodstown, NJ. Our favorite Bible verse is 1 John 4:19, “We love because He first loved us.” We're most looking forward to the unique and marvelous ways God will move in the hearts of the next generation this summer! Every year is an awesome journey and something always surprises us. It's incredible to witness His Holy Spirit doing a new thing and to see how everything comes together to point campers back to Christ!

Middler Camp-

Jack and Daisy McMullen

Jack and Daisy are from Franklinville, New Jersey and have been involved in Malaga Camp Youth Ministries since 2017. They have served as counselors in Junior Camp and Middler/Senior Camp. In 2024, Jack and Daisy took on the role of Directors for Middler Camp to allow Middler Camp and Senior Camp to split to account for the growing number of campers. They attend First Baptist Church of Clayton.

Junior Camp-

Timothy and Kyra Hartman

Timothy and Kyra Hartman have been directing Junior Camp since 2020. While growing up on Malaga Camp, Timothy had the privilege of attending Junior Camp while his father, Greg Hartman, was co-directing with Debbie Witte. In his teen years, he started counseling Junior Camp and now co-directs with his wife, Kyra. She began her involvement with Malaga Camp as a teenager, volunteering as a counselor for Junior Camp. The Hartmans now reside in Malaga Camp with their son, Timothy Jr, and beagle, Esther. They thank God for the incredible opportunity to serve Him by carrying the torch of directing Junior Camp, creating an environment that encourages spiritual growth, friendship, and enjoyment of the outdoors. Their goal is for campers to learn about God, make new friends, and make memories that last a lifetime!

Day Camp-

Katie Cooper and Deanna Hartman

Deanna Hartman has been married to her husband, John for over 10 years and has two children. She's been an active member of Malaga camp and is excited to start her journey serving as Day Camp Director-in-Training.

Katie Cooper has been married to her husband Tim Cooper for almost 24 years. They have four children, one of whom was just recently married. Katie served as Day Camp Director with her husband for 15 years and took a 4-year break. She is excited to direct with her friend!

Deanna and Katie are hoping to create a fun space where the youngest of our campers can learn to love and know Jesus!

Meet the Staff!

Health Director-

Shawna Zimmerman

Shawna Zimmerman first attended Malaga Youth Camp as a camper in 2007. The following year, she returned as a counselor and served in various roles until 2016, when she became a camp nurse. She continues to serve as a camp nurse and now oversees all aspects of camper and staff health and safety as Health Director.

Shawna Zimmerman has been married to her husband for 16 years, and they have four children, all of whom are campers and actively involved in camp.

Shawna is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and is grateful to serve the Lord through camp ministry, helping keep campers and staff safe while giving back to the camp that means so much to her and her family.

REgistrar-

Karen Gassler

Karen Gassler has been involved with Malaga Camp since she was a teenager and was saved here. She has tried to remain involved in camp through the years from counseling, directing, and now registrar. She has been married for 26 years to Chris Gassler, and for a time lived at Malaga when starting their family. She has two girls who have been assorted with camp in different ways as well as campers.
She loves meeting all the families through registration and watching them return year after year. She is looking forward to meeting new families that come to camp as well as greeting returning ones.

Youth Camp operator- Andrea Caldwell

Andrea Caldwell has been part of Malaga Camp for most of her life! She was born and raised here, was married here, and now lives here with her husband of 13 years, Jeff Caldwell, and their three kids.

Youth Camps and the ministry of Malaga Camp have always been very important to her. She was a camper as a child, a counselor as a teen and young adult, a director, and is now serving her 6th year as the Youth Camp Operator- making sure camps run safely and smoothly, and seeks to support the directors of each week of camp. She also serves on the Board of Directors. She dedicated her life to Christ while counseling camp as a 19 year old here and is passionate about campers and their families growing in their knowledge and love of Jesus through this beautiful ministry.
